Ghost of the Cold War
This photo is of the Buckner Building in Whittier, Alaska. During the 50’s it was built for as a Cold War military base. It’s located in a very isolated location in Alaska and the only way you can arrive is by cruise ship or through a two and a half minute ride deep in a tunnel blown through a mountain. The Buckner Building housed all of the residents of the town, and allowed access to all aspects of town life, earning it the nickname “City under one roof”.
When the military pulled out during the sixties, the building sat abandoned and an half century of neglect has taken it’s toll on the structure. It’s known as one of America’s most haunted buildings. This picture speaks to that legacy.
